For a long time now, there has been talk of major investment in the medical industry in Egypt. Multi-billion-dollar investments in hospitals, state-of-the-art medical equipment, and training of medical staff are just parts of a project that is expected to be completed around 2050. The New Cairo, as it is this city that is referred to here, has an area of several hundred square kilometres that is to house 553 hospitals equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment[1]. This one of the world’s most congested cities is just being built anew, and with it, very large investments in medicine are being realised.
When a medical equipment manufacturer in Poland receives an order for 200 hospital beds from a Polish hospital, it is already said to be a major project. In Egypt, tender proceedings for 200 pieces of medical equipment are more about operating tables than hospital beds. For example, one of Poland’s leading medical equipment manufacturers regularly cooperates with countries in the Middle East and has already carried out such large, one-off orders for operating tables on more than one occasion. The medical equipment ordered by this North African country runs into thousands of units. There, no one is surprised by the tender process for hospital beds of 2,000 units. Let’s take a look at some of the medical investments being implemented in Egypt.

The hospital design calls for 138,258 sq m of floor space equipped with modern medical equipment. The 73,600 sq m main hospital building consists of a two-storey basement, a ground floor and four upper floors. The hospital will have space for 12 operating theatres, two hybrid operating theatres ande one room for robot-assisted surgeries. Of course, that is not all; in addition to this, there will be four laparoscopic surgery rooms, three catheterisation laboratories and dedicated post-anaesthetic care units (PACUs). This state-of-the-art space will also include an intensive care/therapy unit (ICU/ITU), as well as laboratories with 2 CT scanners, an angiograph and two MRI scanners. It will be able to accommodate 360 patients on hospital beds. On the third floor, there will be 11 delivery rooms equipped with delivery beds[2]. This massive project will consume many millions of dollars spent on building and furnishing the hospital with medical equipment. This will, of course, benefit the patients and doctors who will use the new hospital.

It is a medical investment of more than $1 billion over 500,000 square metres. It will be the largest private construction project dedicated to the medical industry in the entire Middle East and Africa[3]. Provided with state-of-the-art medical equipment, the hospital is designed to offer rooms with approximately 2,000 inpatient beds. In addition, the facility will also include a separate complex dedicated to rehabilitation and wellness. The project targets all socio-economic classes in Egypt, Africa and the MENA region in general. Egypt is one of the largest healthcare markets in the Middle East with a population of up to 100 million. Being built in the heart of the Middle East, Capital Med will be the only qualified integrated healthcare centre. The hospital will aim to meet the needs of patients in this huge market[4].
The project will be part of the so-called NAC (New Administrative Capital) of the so-called New Cairo. Three hospitals equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment will span an area of more than 260 hectares. Each of the hospitals will be built on a plot of more than 20,000 square metres. The buildings are divided into three categories: a general hospital, a children’s hospital and a women’s hospital with a maternity hospital. Equipping the hospitals with medical equipment for such a large project will require the opening of a tender, which will include operating tables, hospital beds, delivery beds, gynaecological and treatment chairs, patient transport trolleys and many other pieces of equipment in large quantities. Each facility is expected to have a capacity of 300 hospital beds. A training centre for doctors will also be built on the premises of the Medical City [5].

As can be seen, the creation of such an extensive network of hospitals will not only consume millions of dollars but will also require a major logistical commitment and the launch of numerous tenders for medical equipment. The presence of European medical equipment manufacturers in the Middle East is quite strong, and investing in the medical industry in Egypt will be a further development opportunity for these companies. Famed Żywiec, a Polish medical equipment manufacturer, has been developing its sales network in Egypt for years. The dynamic activities made it possible to deliver medical equipment worth millions of dollars to the MENA markets. This proves that Polish medical equipment is present in the implementation of modern medical projects around the world, but also that our economy is developing thanks to companies such as Famed Żywiec.
