Comprehensive medical care for pregnant women struggling with cancer.
These are patients who are dealing with unbelievable stress and anxiety concerning not only their own health, but also the health and future of their unborn child. These women are very heroic – says Mariusz Grzesiak MD, head of the Perinatology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic at the Polish Mother’s Health Centre Institute.[3]
Modern interiors of the refurbished oncology clinic
The centre was built on the site of a refurbished and modernised oncology clinic. Among other things, it features nine monitored rooms with toilets and a day chemotherapy administration room with 13 chairs. The clinic is also equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including, among others, an ultrasound and cardiotocograph (KTG) machine to monitor fetal heart function and transporters to ensure rapid transport of blood to the laboratory and cytostatics to the ward.[4]
A step in the right direction
As a rule, oncology centres in hospitals do not set up maternity wards because of the treatment techniques used there, such as radiotherapy, which are extremely harmful to pregnant women. This is why the creation of a centre dedicated to pregnant women with cancer was so necessary. Now patients can count on comprehensive and specialised assistance in one building.
